Opportunities arise through collaboration and synergy

Going beyond old figures on new papers

A just and inclusive transition requires universal access and shared responsibility. With a new and innovative approach, it is not only necessary but vital to sustaining the green transition that we learn from and engage with the initiatives made possible through collective action. Co-Founder & CEO of The 0-Mission, Anna Riis Hedegaard, highlights both innovation and a community-driven approach as key drivers of change in the green transition.

Shared responsibility

We know that the energy system is a major climate offender, accounting for more than 70% of global emissions. “We are using more fossil energy than ever before, and we need to accelerate the transition even faster if we are to reduce emissions,” Anna explains when discussing the origins of The 0-Mission.

When government subsidies for the green restructuring of the fossil sector were phased out 10–12 years ago—on the assumption that the industry was mature—Anna knew someone had to call upon the private sector. While lenders require security, and state subsidies have been removed, few have the financial capacity to build solar and wind farms, which are crucial to accelerating the transition.

When Apple announced in 2015 that it was building a data center headquarters in Tjele—touting its green credentials—European Energy, where she worked at that time, saw an opportunity to address the imbalance between green and fossil-based electricity that the construction would entail. “If they wanted to maintain their green profile, they should contribute to the transition. That’s how they ended up signing the PPA [Power Purchase Agreement],” she explains. This became a breakthrough moment for the transition, as it meant policymakers no longer had to allocate funding. “We went out and spoke to businesses to see if they wanted to be part of this—and with Apple as a frontrunner, more companies began to see the value in investing in this new agenda and innovation.”

99% of all businesses are either small or medium-sized enterprises, which wouldn’t be able to sign the same type of agreement. If we are to have any hope of transitioning our energy system, all companies must be able to participate.

Today, The 0-Mission democratizes access to green energy contributions. They do so through a subscription model, enabling businesses of all sizes to subscribe to a solar or wind farm. With just one click, a company can ensure that as much green energy is produced as is consumed. “When businesses improve their energy efficiency, we follow their electricity meters—so if they manage to lower their consumption, their subscription costs toThe 0-Mission are automatically reduced,” Anna explains, describing the innovative alternative to corporate energy efficiency.

The age of transparency: transforming data into comprehensible insights

While DoLand Pro focuses on transparent data and impact reporting, The 0-Mission’s innovation also enhances corporate reporting capabilities. “As subcontractors, companies can use their subscription with The 0-Mission in their reporting and even invite their employees to visit the solar farm—allowing them to see firsthand how they are contributing to biodiversity and driving change,” says Anna, emphasizing the importance of engaging businesses in the transition. These visits also help employees develop a vocabulary for discussing the transition. While transparent reporting of corporate emissions and contributions is essential, it is equally important that we articulate this agenda and these data points without fear of greenwashing accusations. That is why The 0-Mission also assists businesses with concrete initiatives—guiding them on how to implement actions in their annual reports, communicate them across media, and create infographics to engage their employees.

For DoLand, The 0-Mission is an indispensable partner in the transition. “We have co-hosted events and participated in various forums with The 0-Mission because they offer sharp insights into how we can rethink the transition. With our impact reporting solutions and their hands-on approach, the synergy between DoLand and The 0-Mission is driving real change,” says Jakob Lage Hansen, Founder & CEO of DoLand.

DoLand Pro facilitates transparent impact reporting for various end users, making impact tangible, measurable, and translated into stories and perspectives that resonate. Together with The 0-Mission, we are working to attract businesses—creating forums that extend the dialogue beyond renewable energy and reporting platforms, focusing instead on systematic change and cross-sector initiatives.

“A company’s responsibility should not simply be buried in a report or reduced to numbers—it should come to life, have heart, and tell a story,” says Anna, underscoring the importance of transparency in data. She emphasizes the need to build an audience and engage the responsible actors. “We must reframe the transition and think outside the box—with imagery and site visits—so that everyone, not just ESG professionals, can see the difference their company is making and the shared responsibility we all bear.”
